Park board approves Woodlawn disc golf redesign, $50,000 previously allocated for renovation

The Moorhead Park Advisory Board approved a redesign of the Woodlawn disc golf course on Aug. 28, using funds previously allocated by the board to renovate the city’s only disc golf course.
Sean, a parks staff member, told the board the current course dates to 1997 and staff and members of the disc golf community worked more than a year on a proposed layout intended to improve safety and playability. The scope includes double-chained baskets, new tee pads, updated signage, landscaping and overall course refinements.
Sean said the board previously approved a $50,000 allocation from the 2025 park amenities fund to help cover renovation costs. He told the board that the ordered baskets arrived under budget and that staff and a contractor will install anchors, tee pads and other hardware this fall.
Sean credited community volunteers Joey Schmidt and Pete Carl for their time on the project and said staff engaged property owners on the east side of the course; he said notices were sent and staff received no objections. He estimated the nearest private properties sit about 50 to 100 feet from the course.
During discussion board members suggested reusing the existing baskets at other parks as single-basket features to broaden exposure. Brian Haugen moved to approve the redesign; Alexander Aldrich seconded. The board voted by voice; the chair called for aye and the motion carried.
No further conditions or amendments to the approved redesign were recorded at the meeting. Staff said work to install the new baskets, tee pads and signage will proceed later this fall.
