Council members and Public Works staff discussed a spike in mosquito complaints on Sept. 23 and staff said the city will coordinate with Turlock Mosquito Abatement to address standing-water sources and community concerns.
Public Works staff reported active outreach to Turlock Mosquito Abatement and plans for a meeting to explore control options after residents and a council member described the issue as widespread. Staff advised residents to remove standing water where possible and relayed abatement guidance cited in the meeting that four to five days of standing water can complete a mosquito breeding cycle.
One council member described aggressive mosquitoes across multiple neighborhoods and parks, saying residents "can't even go outside" and that children and sports activities have been affected. Public Works said it is investigating operational pieces at the wastewater/redeveloped site and has requested abatement help; the city also reported recent ground-level spraying near Sherman Park earlier that morning.
No formal action or additional funding was authorized at the meeting; staff said they will follow up with abatement and report recommendations to council.
