South Berwick held a public hearing Sept. 23 on a proposed amendment to the Historic District ordinance (chapter 84, section 11B(8)) to add “composite material” to the list of allowed materials for replacement signs in the district.
Town staff read the existing and proposed language: the requirement currently says replacement signs within the historic district “shall be made of wood or metal”; the amendment would add “composite material, wood or metal.” Members of the Historic District Commission were present and offered no additional comments. The council chair invited questions from those present; none were raised.
Procedure: The chair opened the hearing, allowed questions from the council and public, then closed the public hearing. A motion to close the public hearing was made and seconded; the council voted 4–0 to close the hearing. No formal adoption vote on the amendment is recorded in the transcript excerpt.
