At the July 7 Clover Park School District board meeting, the assistant superintendent reported that summer school is in session and will conclude July 11 at several schools, and outlined professional development and start-of-year plans.
The assistant superintendent said summer school is running at 4 Heroes Elementary School, Evergreen Elementary School, Thomas Middle School, Harrison Prep and Lakes High School and that the district is planning sixth- and ninth-grade jump-start programs in early August. She also described staff professional development events: a summer institute and new-employee trainings in early August, building-level professional development the week prior to school, and a districtwide opening launch at Harry Lang Stadium on August 21 with additional training on August 22 as the district prepares for the first day of school on August 27.
The assistant superintendent also shared that Superintendent Banner was in Washington, D.C., representing the district at the American Association of School Administrators. She acknowledged that a Lakes High School JROTC cadet was volunteering with FEMA in Texas in response to regional flooding; “we have good kids doing good things all the time,” she said.
