Council approves parking-lot site plan for Nature’s Medicine at 5405 Cogswell Road

The Wayne City Council on June 17 approved the site plan for Nature’s Medicine at 5405 Cogswell Road (tax ID 55-012-99-0003-000). The project removes existing gravel and installs a new paved parking lot and a dumpster enclosure.
City planning staff said the property is zoned I-2 (heavy industrial) and that marijuana facilities in the city are required to be in industrially zoned areas. The planning commission reviewed the project on June 10 and unanimously recommended approval with six conditions. The site plan calls for eight parking spaces plus one Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) stall and includes a dumpster enclosure built to city standards.
Cassie, a representative present for the petitioner, said construction would start "as soon as we get the approval," and that the facility is complying with the city’s paving/parking surfacing requirements. A councilmember who said they walk in the area noted the facility has been a positive presence in the neighborhood and supported the improvement.
Why it matters: The approval brings the facility into compliance with the city’s requirement that parking areas be paved with asphalt or concrete, and it improves on-site loading and refuse handling by adding a code-compliant dumpster enclosure.
