The township supervisor provided an update on recent outreach activities and communications at the July 15, 2025 board meeting, reporting that staff and trustees had staffed tables at local events, coordinated with food pantries, and planned a senior summit expected to run roughly 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The supervisor said general-assistance staff and trustees attended community events including a bridal event, the Club 55 food pantry distribution, the Farmers Market and a senior fair at DeKalb High School, and that staff are distributing a twice-yearly newsletter. “We set up a table at Saint Vincent de Paul,” the supervisor said, noting the pantry provides household essentials and that the township uses such events to share information about services.
The supervisor told the board that the township received a Freedom of Information Act request from NBC News on July 1 and that staff prepared a response promptly; the supervisor said the township worked with other townships in the county and returned the requested records on July 2.
Board members were given a handout and details for an upcoming senior summit that will offer multiple simultaneous sessions on topics ranging from travel to hospice care and legacy planning. The supervisor asked trustees to volunteer for the event, saying about 80 speakers will be involved and the event will provide four concurrent sessions throughout the day.
Clerks and staff training was also discussed; the clerk reported attending a new-clerks training session and noted township minutes and public-notice procedures were covered. The supervisor thanked staff for quick work on the FOIA request and on the decennial report that summarizes township services.
No formal action was taken on outreach items at this meeting; trustees were asked to indicate availability for volunteer shifts at the senior summit.
