The Winfield City Council on July 15 adopted Resolution 1399 establishing a severe-weather preparedness sales-tax holiday to occur in February 2026.
Council described the holiday as covering emergency-preparedness items such as generators, battery packs and chargers, weather radios, battery-powered lights and flashlights, tarpaulins and waterproof sheeting, ground anchors and tie-downs, duct tape, plywood, window protection materials, non-electric coolers and water storage containers, non-electric can openers, artificial ice/ice packs, first-aid kits, fire extinguishers, smoke and carbon-monoxide detectors and similar supplies. The mayor noted that many residents take advantage of such holidays to obtain equipment that aids household preparedness.
Council member Larry made the motion and the council approved the resolution by a voice vote with the chair calling for "all in favor." The resolution was described in general terms at the meeting; the council did not provide an exhaustive product list or specific start and end dates beyond noting the holiday would be set in February 2026 and align with a weekend.
