Stillwater Area High track team honored after True Team state championship

Stillwater Area High School principal Rob Bach introduced senior captains and other student representatives at the board meeting to recognize the high school’s track team, which won the Minnesota True Team state championship this spring.
“Go for every ball,” Bach said — the phrase he identified as the team’s guiding mantra and a principle he has carried from coaching into his school leadership. He described True Team as a state format that emphasizes team depth by scoring three athletes per event, including relays, and said the team had over 40 athletes participate in the state True Team meet. Bach noted this was the school’s fourth True Team championship and the first since 1997.
Students who introduced themselves to the board included senior and captain Liam Nice (pole vault, high jump, long jump), Dylan Renaker (distance events, heading to Marquette University next year), Quintin Howe (sprints captain, 400 and relays), Taylor Young (long and triple jump), Chase Johnson (high jump and long jump), Davis Rolesad (4x800), and incoming junior Emmett Valley (throws). Several students also reported individual state-meet placings and next-step plans: Nice said he placed third at the individual state meet and will compete collegiately in Wisconsin; Renaker said he will run at Marquette.
Bach and board members praised the team’s depth, the coaches’ work and the senior leadership the program provided. The recognition preceded the public-comment period and other regular agenda business.
