The Mankato Public School District board voted to approve a package of 12 policy updates and eliminations presented for a second reading.
Policy committee chair presented the revisions and deletions, which the committee had reviewed over the summer. Revisions include updates to administrative titles and legal references, refinements to language aligning with state disability accommodations, and a change to the district's acceptance-of-gifts policy that raises the building administrator's approval threshold for small gifts from $30 to $75. The committee also recommended eliminating several policies it described as operational or no longer in practice, including guidance on instrument rental and property and liability insurance.
Other policy edits approved include updates to asbestos management and safety-program administrator titles, removal of rental-fee exemptions for scouting and 4-H groups because of insurance concerns, and corrections to the district's literacy/read-act references. The committee reported it received no substantive public comments since the first reading.
The board approved the package by voice vote; the meeting record shows the vote as "aye" with no recorded opposition.
Board members said the changes are largely technical, align district policy with current practice and state guidance, and will return as part of the official policy manual. The policy committee indicated it will continue its scheduled policy-review work this year.
