Hubbard County HRA/EDA approves county garage lease; director reports on audits, grants and Akeley restroom plans

The Hubbard County HRA/EDA approved a short-term lease of a garage it owns at 500 Second Street NW to the county for storage and maintenance purposes at $175 per month.
Staff reported the county needs the garage for storage during nearby construction; the garage is separate from the house on the property and was acquired with the intent the county could use it. The board approved the lease by voice vote.
In the director’s report, staff said they have contacted the auditing firm Miller McDonald to schedule the 2024 audit (the board was told 2023 audit had problems and staff is working to complete reconciliations). Staff also reported The Regency has been awarded Small Cities Program resources for rehabilitation work and that inspections and scope development are underway with a local inspector and staff. The director said if extra funds remain, they may consider work at another property (Cornerstone).
Staff updated the board on Akeley’s restroom project: the Blandon Foundation awarded $100,000 and local resources total about $40,000; staff will meet with the Akeley representative to finalize bid documents and the project will go out to bid in roughly a month. Staff said the facility design has been scaled down to be economical while meeting ADA and other public-use requirements; the HRA/EDA may consider EDA or parks funds to close any remaining gap.
Finally, staff said the HRA/EDA is soliciting bids to replace its website, noting the current site has minimal EDA content and needs updating to better present both HRA and EDA materials. The board approved the garage lease and received the director’s updates; no additional board action was taken on the updates at this meeting.
