Lakeville runs tabletop tornado scenario, emphasizes unified command, communications and roles for council

Lakeville public‑safety leaders conducted a tabletop exercise at the June 23 work session that simulated an EF‑5 tornado striking the city and walked the council through initial response, a 24‑hour post‑impact briefing and communication protocols.

The scenario: staff described a simulated tornado touchdown at 4:42 p.m., a rapid 10‑mile path through the southwestern quadrant of Lakeville, and widespread damage to residential subdivisions, a retail corridor and two public schools. The tabletop briefing said one elementary school (identified in the exercise as Lakeville Elementary) had about 80 children and 12 staff present for summer activities when it was hit.
