The superintendent also told the board the district changed how the public board email link operates: instead of routing messages through an executive secretary for initial filtering, the website link now brings up a list of individual board-member email addresses so senders may choose which member to contact directly. The superintendent said the change was made after discussion; the chair added that constituents should forward related input to the chair or superintendent so the district can maintain a clear response path.
Director Weiss provided a detailed Minnesota State High School League update. She said four students from the state attended a national Student Leadership Summit, the league approved an approximately $12 million annual budget that supports athletics and fine arts programs and again provided a credit back to member schools (about $1.35 million) to offset per-school fees. Weiss noted membership participation across the state was listed at 277,773 students for the prior year and that growth has included new activities such as boys volleyball, robotics, esports and unified/adaptive sports. She said the league is awaiting court rulings on litigation related to transgender participation in athletics and will act according to judicial outcomes.
Director Hamlin reported on a recent AMSD meeting; the board accepted a new member organization (Purdue Center for Arts Education) and heard from a group called Good Trouble, which focuses on youth engagement and reengagement with schools.
Ending: Board members reminded the public of upcoming committee meetings, a board work session in August and the first day of school on Sept. 2.
