District rolls out student CPR certifications; recognizes former Police Explorer now serving as Marine Corps corporal

CPR certification for graduates
The district described a pilot effort to provide American Heart Association CPR certification to graduating seniors at two high schools. The superintendent said sessions were held at Miami Edison Senior High and iPrep Academy with partner support; students who complete the program receive CPR certification along with their diploma. Two recent graduates who completed the training told the board the classes increased their confidence and taught life-saving skills.
Police Explorer alumna honored
The board also recognized Coral Reef Senior High alumna Corporal Stephanie Osorio, a former Police Explorer post chief who is now serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. Deputy Chief Carlos Fernandez and a gunnery sergeant read an award citation: Osorio was named the Second Marine Expeditionary Force Marine of the Year and received a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for meritorious service.

Board members described the CPR certification as a practical, life-saving addition to high school credentials and praised the Police Explorer program for building leadership and civic skills that translated into military and public-service recognition. The board encouraged expansion of CPR instruction and noted interest in adding Heimlich maneuver training in future offerings.
