Hampton Road character-code hearing postponed after incorrect notice; nearby resident seeks answers

DeSoto planning staff told the Planning and Zoning Commission they will not open the public hearing on the Hampton Road character code because the item was not properly advertised, and staff said the case will be re-advertised and returned as a new hearing in August.
During citizens’ appearances, resident Adam Keith Taylor said he had received a notice and was concerned the city’s master plan and the forthcoming code would reclassify areas south of Lindeland (described by Taylor) as an “urban center,” potentially affecting existing homes. Taylor said the letter suggested he “might be losing [his] house” and asked where to get more information.
Assistant Director Jackie Colton and staff directed Taylor to the planning manager, Cambria George, and offered to meet with him before the rescheduled hearing. “That meeting will be coming up in August,” staff told Taylor and offered staff contact information for follow-up.
City staff also told the commission that, because the Hampton Road item did not comply with legal advertisement requirements, the commission would not open the public hearing that night; the item will require re-mailing of notices and be placed on a future agenda. Staff invited residents who wished to comment to use the citizen appearance slot or return for the properly noticed hearing when it is re-scheduled.
