Board approves purchase of towable stump grinder under 2025 CIP

The City of Waukesha Parks, Recreation and Forestry Board on July 21 approved purchase of a Brush Band 3100 towable stump grinder as authorized in the 2025 fleet Capital Improvement Program (CIP) budget.
Aaron Leonard, the city’s forestry supervisor and city forester, told the board staff had demonstrated several machines and selected a towable model because it is attached to a truck for transport and offers higher horsepower than available self-propelled options. "This machine would come with a Caterpillar 120 horsepower diesel engine with a 2 year warranty," Leonard said. The machine will share parts with one of the department’s other stump grinders.
Leonard said the quoted price of $89,907.60 for the Brush Band 3100 (with 120-hp diesel) is below the $110,000 request originally anticipated in the CIP, citing source hold pricing. The purchase will replace the city’s 1996 Vermeer SC1102 stump grinder.
Alderman Camacho moved to approve the purchase and Jennifer Wallner seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
