Lake Oswego board administers oaths, names chair and vice chair and approves consent agenda

The Lake Oswego School District board opened its July 21 session by administering the oath of office to newly elected and re-elected members and introducing two newly selected student representatives.

Oaths and student representatives: Several board members repeated the prescribed oath of office at the start of the meeting. The board also introduced student representatives Nathan Coe (rising senior, Lakeridge High School) and Max Kogler (student representative, Lake Oswego High School), each of whom said they hoped to advocate for student perspectives during the year.

Election of officers: The board considered nominations for chair and vice chair for the 2025-26 school year. A nomination was made and seconded for Kiersten Aird to serve as chair and Neelam Gupta to serve as vice chair; with no further nominations, the presiding officer declared, "I declare Kiersten Aird and Neelam Gupta, chair and vice chair for the 25 to 26 school year by acclamation." The board noted the appointments will guide leadership of board work for the coming year.

Consent agenda: During the regular session the board also approved the consent agenda. A board member moved to approve the consent agenda as presented and another member seconded; the board voice-voted "Aye" and the motion carried.

Why it matters: The oaths and officer elections are standard organizational actions at the start of a board cycle. Student representatives were introduced as part of the board's effort to include student voice in governance work.
