The City of Waukesha Parks, Recreation and Forestry Board voted unanimously July 21 to recommend the 2025 recreation services contract to continue the Foxtail 4K program partnership with the School District of Waukesha.
The Foxtail program provides 4K instruction at city recreation centers under a Model 3 partnership with the School District of Waukesha. Mark Thompson, recreation staff, told the board the program uses DPI funding routed through the district and that the city invoices the district for services. "DPI will reimburse the school district and then we invoice the school district at a rate of $780 per pupil per quarter," Thompson said.
Thompson said the program offers a low instructor-to-student ratio of about 10-to-1 and that this would be the city’s 17th school year partnering with the district to offer 4K services. He reported a current roster of 15 students and said he expected to add two to five more enrollments in August as families finalize registrations.
Board members raised no substantive objections during the discussion. Steve Johnson moved to approve the recommendation and Eric Hummer seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
The board's recommendation will be forwarded to the Common Council for final approval.
