The training was introduced by Mike Migliore, counsel to the council, who told members they were “very fortunate to have with us, as guest speaker Fleur McKendall” and said McKendall would address communication, cultural sensitivity and respect for personal boundaries. Migliore said McKendall “has, amongst other things, been a professor at Del Tech for over, over a decade,” and outlined her experience in diversity and inclusion, workplace communication and professional development.
Members in chambers at roll call included Mr. Koneko, Mr. Smiley, Ms. Durham, Mr. Cartier, Mr. Sheldon, Mr. Carter, Mr. Hollins and Ms. Williams Johns. Councilmen Street, Tackett and Toole and Ms. Kilpatrick were not in chambers at the start, and staff member Mary Lee participated in online roll call.
A motion to approve the minutes from July 15, 2025, was made and seconded; the subcommittee approved the minutes by voice vote. A separate motion, moved and seconded, sent the subcommittee into executive session “for the first 3” (as stated on the record). The group recessed for the executive session; the meeting returned to general session at 3:24 p.m., when the chair stated that the group had received cultural sensitivity training and that no votes were taken in executive session.
The subcommittee heard no public comment during the general session, and members moved to adjourn after returning from the closed session.
No formal decisions, motions or votes were recorded as taken during the executive session itself. The minutes approval and motions to enter and exit closed session were recorded on the public record as described above.
