The City of Battle Creek's Department of Public Works has rescheduled its annual public works open house to Wednesday, July 30, from 4 to 6 p.m. at 150 South Kendall Street, Mayor Mark Behnke said.
The family-friendly event will feature city vehicles, demonstrations, a scavenger hunt, giveaways including compost and plants, music and food trucks. Public Works staff will be on hand with demonstrations about city services.
Behnke also reminded residents to sign up for city alerts and notifications via battlecreekmi.gov, including emergency alerts, service updates and meeting agendas and calendars. The mayor noted several city hiring openings — from bus drivers and mechanics to electricians and police officers — and directed interested applicants to the jobs page on the city website.
The mayor announced the City Commission typically meets on the first and third Tuesdays of each month and said the next regular meetings are scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 5 and Tuesday, Aug. 19, both starting at 7 p.m. in the Commission Chambers at City Hall, 10 North Division Street. Residents can attend in person, watch live broadcasts on AccessVision (channels listed in the announcement) or view livestreams on the City of Battle Creek YouTube channel. Agendas are usually posted by the Thursday before each workshop or meeting; paper copies are available at the city clerk's office.
