Council approves Phase 2 road resurfacing intergovernmental agreement with Cherokee County

Council approved an amended intergovernmental agreement (IGA) with Cherokee County July 17 to add a second phase of road resurfacing work to the county’s paving contract and to use additional state funds the city received.
Public works presenter Penley told council the city received extra state funds and rebid an additional list of streets; the low bidder, South Georgia Paving, agreed to honor their earlier prices for the added work so the city could proceed without rebidding. Penley listed streets included in the Phase 2 request: Orange Street, North Chrysler, Haines Road, Ridgeway Road, Fields Court, Misty Way and Misty Court (first group) and Lantana Trail, Hydrangea Bend, Laurel Bend, Gardenia Curve, Poplar Bend and Oleander Way off Prominence Point Parkway (second group).
Penley said the bids came back lower than expected and that the aggregate difference left a modest overage which staff proposed covering so the paving could occur before the start of the school year; the city moved for immediate action so contractor schedules would permit completion. Councilmember Roach made a motion to approve the Phase 2 IGA and the motion passed on a unanimous voice vote.
The transcript records staff statements about specific bid and funding numbers and an overage of roughly $48,688.90 to close the funding gap; the city will use the IGA amendment to finalize the paving schedule with the county and contractor.
