Indio opens items from 2005 time capsule, assembles new capsule for City Hall to open in 50 years

At a public ceremony, Mayor Glenn Miller and other Indio City officials opened a time capsule placed in 2005 and announced plans to seal a new capsule in the new City Hall that officials said will be opened in 50 years.

The items removed from the earlier capsule included commemorative shovels from the Indio Teen Center groundbreaking and the Indio Senior Center, lapel pins and challenge coins, several newspapers and newsletters, a tourism magazine, and records related to the city’s festivals and civic programs. Mayor Glenn Miller said the 2005 capsule had been opened once in 2010 to add materials and that many of the items show “where we’ve been and where we’re gonna go.”
