Committee recommends changes to RVT registration pathways; board asked to ratify AB 1502 amendments and begin rulemaking on CCR 16 §2068.5

The California Veterinary Medical Board’s Multi‑Disciplinary Committee on June 25 recommended the board ratify legislative amendments to BPC section 4841.5 included in the June 25, 2025 version of AB 1502 and authorized staff to initiate rulemaking to amend California Code of Regulations, Title 16, section 2068.5.

The committee said the amendments clarify three RVT registration pathways, tighten language on required education and accrediting entities and preserve a separate alternate pathway tied to practice hours rather than creating unexpected new barriers for experienced out‑of‑state applicants. Committee members also proposed moving the existing supervising‑veterinarian checklist into regulation language that better aligns with the AVMA/CVTEA categories while leaving certain task‑level judgements to supervising veterinarians.
