Council members discussed the summer concert lineup and promotion, noting multiple tribute acts and strong public interest. The council said earlier concerts included tributes to Neil Diamond and AC/DC, and upcoming shows will feature an Eagles tribute and a Journey tribute billed as an all-day event with food trucks. Council members observed that parking lots were full for at least one concert and that advertising, including on a local radio station identified as 97.5, had driven visibility.
The council also reviewed the Veterans Memorial dedication held over the Fourth of July weekend. Members and attendees described the ceremony as well organized; the council cited remarks by Councilwoman Bethany McKinney and General Jim Hodge as part of the program. Several council members and volunteers involved in planning were thanked for their work; city staff and volunteers were identified as handling ongoing maintenance of memorial plantings and decorative baskets.
On capital projects and volunteer efforts, the council said a planned water line at Williams Park is not currently urgent after the city's adopt-a-spot assignments changed. A proposed Western Star Boy Scout project has been delayed; the council said the scout has not yet returned with required paperwork and expects to present the project later in the summer.
The council moved to approve minutes from its June meeting pending a set of corrections. During a roll-call vote, affirmative votes were recorded from Council members Gibson, Witzberger, Whitworth and Fritz; one member stated she had not yet read the May minutes but indicated she could vote on the corrected June minutes. The council chair indicated the June minutes would be approved after the noted corrections were made.
The meeting concluded with a brief administrative discussion about distributing corrected minutes and scheduling a photo session; the council then adjourned.
