Zoning hearing on Hoffman Brothers permit continued to Aug. 18 or 19 after counsel reports medical emergency

Zoning hearing examiner Maureen McNeil postponed the July 16, 2025, second hearing on administrative case ERR001202025 — a request by Hoffman Brothers Inc., trading as Hoffman Brothers Used Cars, to validate a permit issued in error (Permit U14196) — to Aug. 18 or 19 at 9:30 a.m.

The continuance followed a statement by counsel for the applicant and a neighbor's request to make comments. "I unfortunately have pretty profound bleeding problem," Bruce Marcus said during the hearing, prompting McNeil to propose rescheduling. Neighbor Thomas Harrah introduced himself on the record as a nearby resident: "My name is Thomas Harrah, and I live next door to the property." McNeil said the prior hearing remains part of the record and that she would "be sending out a notice to you all."

McNeil said she would aim to set the rescheduled hearing for either Monday, Aug. 18, or Tuesday, Aug. 19, at 9:30 a.m. and asked participants to email any objections that day. "We'll be mailing notice to everyone that was supposed to receive notice," she said. McNeil also noted that signs posted by the applicant should inform interested parties how to contact the office.

Stan Brown, who participated in the scheduling exchange, said he was available on both proposed August dates. No formal vote or final decision was taken on the permit's merits at the July 16 session; the hearing was continued for procedural reasons and to allow parties and interested neighbors to attend.

The record for this matter includes the earlier hearing; McNeil said that hearing remains part of the administrative record for ERR001202025. The hearing examiner's office will mail new notices to those entitled to receive them and will include the final determination of whether the rescheduled hearing will be in person or remote in that notice.
