Bill Korn was elected chair of the Nassau County Conservation Land Acquisition and Management (CLAM) Committee and Leonard Wood was elected vice chair during the committee's July 17 meeting.
The leadership change follows the resignation of former chair Chris Hill, announced at the start of the meeting. Committee members voted to place Korn in the chair position and Wood as vice chair; members called for the motion and voiced assent by saying "aye," after which the chair announced the motion passed.
The committee heard brief introductions from new and returning members before the vote. Bill Korn identified himself as the committee's vice chair and one of the original members, and described his consulting-forester background and lengthy experience in private forestry work in Florida and Georgia. Leonard Wood, who accepted the vice-chair nomination, has served on regional water-management boards in the past and was described in the meeting as experienced with state-level land management work.
Committee members emphasized continuity after Hill's resignation and noted Korn and Wood's prior experience with forestry, conservation acquisitions and local land-management programs. No roll-call vote totals were recorded in the meeting minutes; the motion was carried with an unrecorded voice vote.
The committee did not attach additional authorities or new policy responsibilities to the leadership change during the meeting. Staff noted that the committee would continue work on planned acquisitions and the CLAM manual under the new leadership.
Members and staff present for the election included Bill Korn (committee member; elected chair), Leonard Wood (committee member; elected vice chair), Peter Simmons (committee member), Kathy Russell (committee member), Josh McBeth (Senior Planner, Strategic Advancement), and Beth Moore (Assistant County Attorney).
