Mayor Dragish reported to the Canfield City Council that she attended a two‑day Washington, D.C., “fly‑in” hosted by the Youngstown‑Warren Regional Chamber in June to promote Canfield and explore funding and partnership opportunities for housing, water and road infrastructure, and workforce programs.
Dragish said the delegation met with regional business leaders and multiple congressional offices to “represent the interests of the city of Canfield, strengthen relationships with federal and state lawmakers, explore funding and partnership opportunities for local initiatives, [and] promote Canfield as a desirable location for residential development.” She described the city primarily as “a bedroom community” while noting officials also sought business recruitment and infrastructure support.
According to her summary, the trip’s first day included briefings and meetings near the Library of Congress and discussions with congressional staff and business‑side groups; the second day featured panels and remarks in the Kennedy Caucus Room. Dragish said she spoke with or heard from participants identified during her presentation (including representatives listed as attending): Congressman Max Miller, Congressman Michael Ruhle, Congressman Dave Taylor and Congressman Dave Joyce, as well as speakers from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and regional chamber leadership. She said those meetings helped Canfield “identify ways Canfield can align with regional projects to attract funding in water and road infrastructure plus workforce initiatives.”
Dragish told council she emphasized Canfield’s safety, schools and proximity to regional employers when promoting the city and that officials discussed mechanisms for pursuing federal and state‑backed programs to support water infrastructure and workforce development. She recommended continued participation in regional and national leadership summits so local officials can maintain “face time” with decision makers and better position Canfield for funding and partnerships.
Council did not take formal action on the presentation; Dragish framed it as an informational report and a recommendation for future attendance at similar events.
