Puyallup commenter asks board to confirm policy allowing teacher award acceptance

Sirio said the application deadline for confirming eligibility was Friday, July 11 at 5 p.m.
Sirio compared the award to other national educator prizes and said such awards recognize years of curriculum work, industry partnerships and extracurricular efforts that benefit students. He characterized the prize as ‘‘not a gift’’ and asked that the board review policy 62.30 to allow acceptance of the individual portion of the award should he be selected.
The board did not state a formal decision on the record during the meeting. The request was made during the public comment portion of the July 11 meeting; no formal motion or vote on policy 62.30 was recorded in the transcript.
