The Coeur d'Alene City Council on July 15 approved Resolution 25-036, consenting to a sublease by the University of Idaho that would allow the Coeur d'Alene Tribe to occupy the south wing of the first floor of Harbor Center.
City staff said the University of Idaho holds a master lease on Harbor Center that runs through June 30, 2028, and that the university seeks city consent to sublease space formerly used by Lewis-Clark State College. The proposed sublease term would run Aug. 1, 2025, through June 30, 2028. Staff told council the city has no current municipal use for the vacated space and that consenting to the sublease would have no financial impact on the city; the master lease requires the landlord’s consent but adds that approval should not be unreasonably withheld.
Public comment included a University representative who described the university’s ongoing educational presence at the Harbor Center. Council discussion noted the longstanding relationship among the city, university and tribe. The council approved the resolution by roll call; staff said the university has paid an annual nominal rent of $10 under the master lease in recent years.
Action: Resolution 25-036 consenting to the sublease of Harbor Center first-floor south wing to the Coeur d'Alene Tribe for the period 08/01/2025–06/30/2028. Vote: council approved the resolution (roll call recorded in meeting).
