The Tangipahoa Parish Council on July 14 unanimously approved a set of administrative actions and resolutions that will put tax renewals on the ballot and authorize procurement steps.
The council voted 8-0 to adopt Resolution 25-22, ordering a special election on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2025, to authorize renewal of a 4-mill ad valorem tax for a 10-year period to fund maintenance, operation and development of parish health units. The resolution also authorizes application to the State Bond Commission for consent and related approvals. The motion to adopt 25-22 was moved by Mister Mayhew and seconded by Mister Joseph; the meeting record shows an initial misstatement of the tally that the clerk corrected to 8-0.
The council also voted 8-0 to adopt three separate resolutions calling special elections on Nov. 15, 2025, to renew 10-mill ad valorem levies for Road Lighting Districts 2, 4 and 7 for 10 years (collections beginning with the 2027 tax year and continuing through 2036). Those are recorded as Resolution 25-23 (District 2), Resolution 25-24 (District 4) and Resolution 25-25 (District 7); each resolution states the proceeds will be used to provide, maintain and operate street and public-area lighting in the respective districts and includes application to the State Bond Commission. Roll calls for those items show each passed 8-0.
On procurement, the council approved seeking bids for replacement blades for road equipment (described in the meeting as “greater blades”/blades for the machine). The motion to seek bids was made by Mister Jones and seconded as noted in the record; the roll call on the procurement item recorded unanimous approval.
The council approved a new appointment to Keep Tangipahoa Beautiful, appointing Ramon Wheeler to a term expiring in 2027 for District 6; that appointment passed on a roll call vote recorded as 8-0.
The meeting record also shows a motion to adopt the minutes that passed by roll call (recorded as 8-0). The council did not discuss changes to the tax rates or durations during the July 14 meeting; each resolution’s text included the millage rate and the 10-year term beginning with the 2027 tax year.
