Council seeks county engagement on poll pads and raises concerns about meeting-streaming access

The council and city administrator discussed continued outreach to Anoka County on election administration issues, including poll pads and post-election review requests.

Lauren, the city administrator, said she had contacted Anoka County Administrator Jim Dickinson and requested county-commissioner engagement. County Commissioner Julie Brasstead agreed to coordinate a meeting between two county commissioners who represent Oak Grove (Brasstead and Commissioner Gamache) and two Oak Grove councilmembers; staff said the county declined a full joint board/council workshop, citing internal division on the issues.

Mayor Rolfe and other council members said they want clearer responses from county representatives about poll-pad procurement, post-election reviews and the countys role as election official. Councilmembers asked staff to continue pushing for a meeting and for the county to provide documents and answers to outstanding questions.

Council also discussed public access to meetings. Councilmember Angie (first name only in transcript) and others said residents have had difficulty viewing Granicus-hosted live meetings on Android devices and that the city website is not mobile-friendly for meeting playback. Lauren said Granicus reported a known issue with Android devices using the Chrome browser and that the vendor had quoted several thousand dollars to add YouTube streaming integration. Council asked staff to evaluate alternatives to improve access and to report solutions and costs.

Councilmember Weston noted repeated outreach to county commissioners about poll-pad concerns dating back to February and urged continued pressure to secure county responses and options for local verification. Staff said the county offered to send the two relevant county commissioners to meet with the council and city staff in late summer, and that staff would follow up on scheduling.
