Sampson County welcomes Allen Van as new county manager

The Sampson County Board of Commissioners introduced and welcomed Allen Van as the county's new county manager.
Van, who the chair said was hired since the board's last meeting, told commissioners he grew up in the Clement community, attended Midway High School (class of 1988), and studied at Sampson Community College before earning an undergraduate business degree from UNCW and later an MBA from Meredith College in 2016.
Van described a career in operational roles for school systems, saying he worked with Johnston County Schools in district-level operational administration and later took department head and assistant county manager positions in Pinder County Government beginning in 2018. He said he was promoted to assistant county manager in December 2019 and served in that role until coming to Sampson County.
"I'm very excited about what we can achieve here together," Van said, noting he has family and friends in the county and called his return "coming home." He thanked staff for their welcome and said he looks forward to working with the board and county employees.
Commissioners welcomed Van and praised his decision to return to the county.
