Council approves liquor license for restaurant at former OPA site

The Delaware City Council approved a liquor license application for Trex, a proposed steakhouse to be located at 18 South Sandusky (the former OPA), during the July 14, 2025 meeting.
City staff introduced the application and said the project will convert the former OPA into a steakhouse with an estimated $225,000 investment and projected to generate 20 to 30 new jobs. Staff listed several estimated tax impacts during the presentation: "Total amount invested in the project is $225,000, should generate 20 to 30 new jobs, unemployment tax of $15,000 a year, sales tax of 74 $500 a month, state withholding tax of $17,000 a year," the presenter said.
The police department reported it had conducted the standard liquor background check and found none of the statutory reasons to object. Police recommended no objection to the license.
Councilor Frazier moved to approve the Trex liquor license "without objection." The motion was seconded and passed on a roll call vote; the mayor declared the motion carried.
The council did not attach additional conditions in the recorded motion.
