Council sets public hearing to consider reducing inside-tax-district speed limit from 30 to 25 mph

Saratoga Springs scheduled an Aug. 5 public hearing to consider amending city code (chapter 225-12) to lower the default speed limit in the inside tax district from 30 mph to 25 mph based on an engineering study by Stantec.
Saratoga Springs council members voted July 15 to set a public hearing Aug. 5 at 6:30 p.m. to consider amending chapter 225-12 of the city code to reduce the maximum speed limit in the inside tax district from 30 miles per hour to 25 miles per hour.
The proposal follows an engineering study prepared by Stantec. Council staff said Complete Streets will also make a presentation to the council in connection with the proposed change; the final signed engineering report will be circulated to council members before the hearing.
The proposed change would apply to the inside tax district; the resolution being advanced excludes certain outside-tax-district streets and subdivisions, which staff said were deliberately omitted based on the engineering recommendation.
No final action was taken July 15; the hearing will provide a public forum for residents and stakeholders to comment before council consideration of any ordinance amendment.
