The Fort Pierce Planning Board on Monday recommended approval of a conditional use to operate Esposito College (Esposito Institute) as a satellite medical-training campus at 1404 South 20th Street.
Planning staff summarized the application as a conditional use with no new construction for a property of about 0.6 acres. Staff said the proposed use — educational facilities/college — is conditional under the city’s code and presented a floor plan showing computer labs, training labs and classrooms, offices and support spaces. Staff recommended approval to the city commission with two conditions: (1) apply for a signed permit prior to issuance of a certificate of occupancy, and (2) submit a notarized landscape‑maintenance agreement prior to the certificate of occupancy.
Dr. Jose Garcia, president of Esposito College Institute, told the board the Jacksonville main campus experience indicates only six to 10 students would be on site at a time and most coursework is online, with limited hands‑on lab time at the satellite location. He said clinical rotations will be conducted at affiliated clinics and that the site will have a small staff complement. A member of the public raised a question about parking; the applicant said experience at the Jacksonville campus indicates on‑site parking is adequate for the limited number of students expected.
A motion to recommend approval with the two staff conditions passed on roll call; all planning board members voted yes.
