East Ridge council votes: sign variance approved; parks equipment purchases cleared

The East Ridge City Council on July 10 approved multiple routine and project-related items, including a sign-variance resolution for a Ringgold Road property and several budgeted equipment purchases for Parks and Recreation.
Sign variance (Resolution No. 3699). The council approved a variance allowing replacement of the sign cabinet and electronic message display at 6302 Ringgold Road (an Arby's) while retaining the existing support structure and message board. After initial discussion, the council rejected a motion to deny the variance and later approved the resolution on roll call: Councilmember Cagle — yes; Councilmember Ezell — yes; Councilmember Witt — no; Mayor Williams — yes (motion carried 3–1). The presenter said the new cabinet would be slightly shorter than the existing nonconforming sign and that the variance would avoid repositioning a new monument sign that might affect the drive aisle.
Parks and Recreation purchases. The council approved three budgeted items for Parks and Recreation under cooperative purchasing agreements: - Resolution 3700: purchase of a John Deere Gator utility vehicle through Sourcewell cooperative purchasing (replacement for an older unit). Vote: unanimous approval. - Resolution 3701: purchase of a Briggs & Stratton 40-horsepower mower (Ferris mower) under the BuyBoard cooperative purchasing agreement. Vote: unanimous approval. - Resolution 3702: purchase of a Massey Ferguson compact utility tractor under BuyBoard, budgeted at $12,100 and intended to replace a 28-year-old unit with over 17,000 hours. Vote: unanimous approval.
Consent agenda. The council approved the consent agenda, which included minutes from the June 26 meeting and the May 2025 financial report, on a unanimous roll call.
Other routine procurement and bid items were discussed on the agenda but either will return for later action or were informational (for example, annual bids for street materials and several Parks and Recreation bid openings).
