East Ridge staff outlines $3 million plan to install synthetic turf at Camp Jordan fields 5–8 and stadium

City parks staff told the East Ridge City Council on July 10 that the city is proceeding with plans to install synthetic turf on Camp Jordan Park fields 5–8 and the soccer stadium, with a project cost not to exceed $3 million.
Parks Director and assistant director have worked with ASA Engineering and Baseline Sports Construction to develop design and cost estimates. Staff said the council previously authorized the project by Resolution No. 3628 on Nov. 11, 2024, and that the current figure — a total cost not to exceed $3,000,000 — reflects the most recent contractor estimates.
Staff said excavation depths will vary by field (8 inches for typical fields and up to 15 inches for the soccer stadium) and noted earlier drawings discussed exporting excavated material; staff told council they revised plans to retain suitable excavated material onsite to reduce trucking costs, but final details will be confirmed in the forthcoming contractor presentation.
Drainage was a central question. Staff said field drainage will be routed around fields and is expected to discharge to either the on-site duck pond or a private detention area pending approvals. Staff said ASA and Baseline will return to the next council meeting to present final drainage and staging plans and to answer technical questions about soil export, retention and long-term maintenance.
Staff also said contractors will provide training and equipment recommendations to the parks department for turf care after installation.
No final contract award occurred at the July 10 meeting; staff requested the council hear the technical presentation and a final contract recommendation at a subsequent meeting.
