Commission plans block party booth, poets and meet-and-greets; August 23 block party date set

Commission staff reported that the Cultural Arts Commission will host a booth at the city block party on Saturday, Aug. 23, from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. The booth will include a button-making activity and two poets donated by the Colorado Poet Center who will staff the booth in two-hour increments.
Staff requested commissioner volunteers for hour-long booth shifts (staff suggested ending booth duties by about 8 p.m. because family audiences thin after that hour). Staff said they would circulate a SignUpGenius link for volunteer shifts and expected the commission to staff the booth in hour-long intervals.
Staff also gave updates on meet-and-greets with local artists. Recent events included visits to Continuum and Collective and an upcoming second-Saturday event; staff encouraged commissioners to attend to meet artists and invite them to submit to commission programs. Staff said the meet-and-greets are an outreach tool to identify artists for murals, wraps and other projects.
Staff suggested saving poets’ work collected at the booth for display at the library and on social media and said the poets’ donated time is equivalent to a $150 value per poet. Commissioners affirmed the plan and staff will circulate volunteer sign-ups and event logistics.
