District outlines painting, flooring and hallway repairs after summer damage

District staff reported multiple facilities projects completed or planned, including multi-year painting work, carpet replacement after a flooding event at the middle school, turf removal and repair of a concrete “air pocket” in a high-school hallway.

The presenter said the district has been painting four to five rooms in each school each year for several years as a budgeted, phased maintenance plan. Over the summer the district painted four rooms in each school and is planning a bid to paint Crabtree (staff estimated roughly $10,000 for that job). The presenter said principals select which rooms are repainted under the phased approach.

The presenter described a backed-up drain and heavy rain at the middle school late in the school year that allowed water into the library floor; carpet replacement and some kitchen-serving-area repairs were under way. Four middle-school classrooms were being recarpeted, the presenter said. The district also removed and is replacing damaged artificial turf in an 800-level hallway area at the high school and removed a concrete “air pocket” that had swelled under a hallway surface; the presenter said crews will replace that section of concrete in the coming weeks.

Board members did not vote on these maintenance items during the meeting; the projects were presented as routine maintenance and planned work.

Ending Staff characterized these as ongoing, budgeted repairs and said they are addressing flooring and paint needs gradually to keep the district’s capital expenses manageable.
