South Gate cultural and arts division reports strong attendance for events, programs

South Gate’s cultural and arts division reported higher participation and renewed event offerings across summer concerts, family nights, seasonal festivals and arts programming.
Staff said the summer concert series drew about 600–700 attendees per Friday night, movies in the park drew about 200 people per screening and special events such as family nights, Halloween and Santa’s breakfast were well attended or sold out. The division added new elements this year, including a beer garden and vendor areas at concerts, a slime station and trackless train at Halloween, and an adult egg hunt at Easter.
Youth programs such as Tiny Tots and Little Chefs ran with near‑capacity enrollment; the division noted fewer Tiny Tots classes than previous years due to staffing shortages but planned to continue excursions and age‑appropriate activities. Senior programming continued to include excursions, meals through an HSA partnership and participation in the annual Southeast Senior Ball. Staff also reported increased golf course activity, revived tournaments and continued high interest in cultural arts events such as the art walk and a community exhibit featuring 62 art submissions.
Commissioners had no substantive amendments and voted to receive and file the cultural and arts annual report.
