Commissioners raised questions about a $23,000 increase that appeared tied to the economic development director line item and whether the amount represented salary, benefits or other operating costs. One commissioner said they did not have a breakdown and asked staff (identified in discussion as Carrie) to provide one, noting that some of the requested money would also cover travel, training and meeting expenses for economic development work. “I don't know. Carrie didn't give me a breakdown of where what would go,” a speaker said during the discussion.
Because key budget details were not available during the meeting, a commissioner amended a motion to table the CEOAB recommendations and the commission voted to table the item so staff can supply a budget sheet and the requested breakdown. Commissioners asked staff to return the item to the next meeting with a clearer itemized budget that specifies how much of the increase would be applied to wages and how much to other program costs.
