Daggett County clarifies fire restrictions, emergency-vehicle constraints and fireworks guidance ahead of July 4

Daggett County commissioners, the sheriff’s office and staff discussed wildfire restrictions, emergency access constraints over a swinging bridge, and fireworks guidance for unincorporated county lands during the June 26 meeting.
County staff reported that the governor issued a statewide restriction that applies to unincorporated, nonfederal lands. The Bureau of Land Management already has restrictions in place, while U.S. Forest Service restrictions had not been issued at the time of the meeting. Staff said they had posted both the BLM and state notices and are following the governor’s proclamation for unincorporated county land.
Commissioners and staff discussed how municipalities may adopt separate rules: county staff stressed that town governments can make their own decisions for incorporated areas. Commissioners asked staff to post a public notice for visitors to the county about the statewide restriction.
Emergency access was another operational focus. County staff advised that to cross the swinging bridge with trucks and emergency vehicles, about 98 inches of clearance is “comfortable” and 101 inches will fit but with little margin; staff said larger vehicles may need to tip or retract mirrors and that ambulance crews should be aware of vehicle widths when responding to calls. The commission noted the width constraint when discussing road-district work intended to bring the bridge up to minimum compatible sizes.
The commission also discussed enforcement and fireworks: staff said county enforcement would largely follow other agencies’ guidance, that federal land already prohibits fireworks, and that the county would post guidance for visitors indicating no fireworks on unincorporated county land under the governor’s order. Commissioners described fireworks enforcement as a lower operational priority but said they intended to inform the public.
Ending: Staff will post notices about the statewide restrictions for unincorporated county land and coordinate with towns on whether those municipalities will adopt different fireworks rules; emergency services personnel were reminded to note vehicle-width limits for bridge crossings.
