Representatives from the San Bernardino Community College District (SBCCD) presented an overview of district programs, recent Measure CC and bond‑funded capital projects, and partnerships with local schools.
Jose Torres, SBCCD executive vice chancellor (presenting for Chancellor Diana Rodriguez), highlighted Crafton Hills College and San Bernardino Valley College, KVCR public media, and career‑training investments funded through Measure CC and related bonds. The presentation cited investments in public safety and workforce training facilities, solar and energy‑efficiency upgrades, electric vehicle stations, and local construction wages and business contracting tied to the bond program.
Torres described district outreach and programs that place students with local nonprofits as part of a state‑funded college corps program that gives participating students a stipend and potential end‑of‑term payments. He also described KVCR’s reach and the First Nations Experience (FNX) channel, and invited council members to visit district campuses and the public‑media station.
Council members thanked district leaders, noted workforce and apprenticeship importance for mountain communities, and asked several follow‑up questions about local partnerships. The district said it looks forward to future engagement with Big Bear Lake and local workforce initiatives.
