After a public hearing on July 9, the Big Bear Lake City Council authorized staff to place updated solid‑waste service charges for fiscal year 2025–26 on the San Bernardino County property tax roll.
Council staff said solid‑waste service in the city is provided under an exclusive franchise agreement with Big Bear Disposal adopted in August 2022. At a June meeting the council approved a 5 percent rate adjustment under the terms of that franchise agreement; the action on July 9 was the second procedural step to authorize collection of the updated charges through the county tax roll, which the city has done “for many, many years.”
There was brief public comment. Dan Gilbranson expressed frustration about trash cans, delivery and pickup practices; city staff did not change the staff recommendation based on public comment. The public hearing was opened and closed in sequence, and the council then voted to adopt the resolution authorizing collection.
The motion to place charges on the tax roll passed unanimously. Staff said the meeting’s action implements previously approved rates and does not itself change rates beyond steps already taken in June.
