An unnamed county finance official explained that the budget amendment increases the public schools building fund by $5,542,639 to reflect lottery funds received for fiscal year 2024–25 and transfers those amounts to the school system. The official also said $274,263 appropriated to the Department of Social Services in 2022 was not spent and is being transferred from the DSS fund balance into the general fund to support ARPA-funded activities appropriated in the current fiscal year. The amendment additionally records ARPA transfers the county needed to make before reporting deadlines and to address a prior audit finding.
The finance official said the county has already begun audit preparation and has provided documentation for 2024–25 to the auditors earlier than typical.
A motion to approve the budget amendment was made and seconded; commissioners adopted the amendment by unanimous voice vote.
