Beaver County commissioners receive reports on storm damage, appeals, events, landfill RFP and year-end finances

Beaver County commissioners on Tuesday heard a series of department updates that included storm-related tree collapses near Martin Hill that pulled down utility poles, an appeals filing update, a report on a county event that drew thousands, plans for a countywide landfill request for proposals and preliminary year-end financial figures.

County staff reported that saturated ground following heavy rain has caused trees to tip and fall around Martin Hill, snapping utility poles and pulling down wiring between shelter structures. “We actually have trees that are falling over in grades around Martin Hill,” a staff member reported, adding that poles were being replaced that morning and that a utility contractor would restore power once replacement work was complete.

The staff member said crews were removing downed trees and coordinating with the power contractor and event rental customers whose reservations were affected. The meeting also included a brief thank-you comment noting recently repainted and functioning fountains at an unspecified county facility.
