City prepares tax budget for Miami County submission with July 15 deadline

Huber Heights finance staff briefed the council July 8 that the city’s tax budget must be approved and submitted to the Miami County Budget Commission by July 15. The tax budget is a procedural document that estimates revenues and starts the formal ’26 budget process; staff noted the city also delivers the document to Montgomery County even though only Miami County requires it.
Staff emphasized the tax budget does not appropriate funds; the final appropriation will be presented later in the year after department meetings and public hearings. The tax budget process will produce the certificate of estimated resources used by the county auditor, which in turn can affect eligibility for local government funds; staff said they are not concerned about receiving that funding and noted the city received about $650,000 this year from those funds.
Council was reminded that the five‑year CIP has been passed, which is a precondition for the tax budget; staff said a public hearing on the tax budget will occur at the council meeting on Monday.
