At a glance: Transportation Committee approves parking change, school bus-loading time update and approves minutes

The Oshkosh Transportation Committee approved three routine items during its meeting: removal of a 15-minute parking space on Sixteenth Avenue, an ordinance timing change for bus loading at Reed Elementary, and approval of the committee’s June meeting minutes.

Removal of 15-minute parking on Sixteenth Avenue: Staff said the short-term space adjacent to a former bakery is no longer needed; the area is being evaluated for reconstruction next year and commercial activity in the immediate area has declined. The committee moved and approved removal of the 15-minute parking designation; recorded roll-call votes on the motion included aye votes from Armstrong, Merritt, Lynch, Hartman and Martin.

Reed Elementary bus-loading timing: The committee approved updating the ordinanceed no-parking/stopping/loading zone on Algoma Boulevard in front of Reed Elementary School to begin at 7:00 a.m. (previously 7:30 a.m.) and extend through the afternoon (the ordinance’s later end time already covers afternoon activity). School staff had requested the change because some buses arrive before 7:30 a.m.; committee members and staff agreed that changing the ordinance and signage to begin at 7:00 a.m. would allow enforcement to match actual bus operations.

Approval of minutes: The committee approved the minutes of its June meeting on a motion moved and seconded; a roll-call recorded aye votes from Armstrong, Merritt, Lynch, Hartman and Martin.
