Council approves infrastructure and local measures including wastewater project, traffic code change and community awards
Summary
During the meeting the council approved plans and contracts for a wastewater treatment improvements project, passed a second reading changing stop intersections in the code, approved street use and parking waivers for an event, accepted multiple consent items and named a community dedication award recipient.
The Boone City Council approved several formal items at the meeting, including adoption of plans and specifications for a wastewater treatment project, a second reading of a traffic code amendment, multiple event and project approvals, and the selection of the Community Dedication Award recipient.
The council adopted Resolution No. 33-94, described on the agenda as adopting “the plans and specifications in form of contract” for the Duong wastewater treatment plant improvements — headworks 2025 project; the public hearing for that item drew no public comment. The motion and second were called and a roll-call vote was recorded; the resolution was adopted.
The council also approved an ordinance on second reading (Ordinance 23-21) to amend Chapter 65, Section 65.02 of the Boone Code of Ordinances to revise stop intersections. The ordinance passed its second reading by roll-call vote.
Other items approved during the meeting included: - a no-parking request for additional blocks west of the Armbark Pavilion for a band festival (council approved the temporary parking restriction); - approval of locations and tentative funding for new picnic tables downtown and two tables at Veterans Park (council approved locations; construction timing to follow and may be delayed to September/October); - a motion to document and extend temporary certificates of occupancy and set a 60-day deadline for punch-list completion for a two-phase development at 20 Second (Villas at Fox Point and BJFC senior portion); - acceptance of a certified list of candidates to hire for a police replacement position and authorization to proceed with hiring; and - approval of the consent agenda, which enacted multiple routine items in one motion.
In recognition items, the council voted to present the Community Dedication Award to Jim Turvis for long-standing local media service and community volunteerism. The motion to award Turvis carried on a roll-call vote.
Council also moved into a closed session under Iowa Code to discuss disposition of particular real estate after a motion and second; the roll call to enter closed session was recorded.
