County administrator outlines job openings, assessor move, road projects and Fremont County Fair schedule

County Administrator Justin Carrocci updated the Fremont County Board of County Commissioners on operations and upcoming events on July 8, 2025. His report covered job postings, vital records hours, road striping operations, a temporary assessor relocation, a major road reconstruction project in Canyon City and details about the Fremont County Fair.
Carrocci said the county had open positions including a veterans-office assistant (32–40 hours/week) and detention and patrol deputy positions at the sheriff’s office; several postings close in July (closing dates not specified in the meeting). He advised residents seeking employment to visit the county website or call HR at (719) 276-7409.
On public health, he said the county’s vital records office is operating on limited hours at the Garden Park Public Health Building, Monday–Thursday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., with posted service options when the office is closed. Carrocci said the assessor’s office has temporarily moved to the Garden Park building while asbestos is removed and a remodel is performed; the assessor expects a return to the County Administration Building in October. Carrocci said county roadway striping operations are under way (work through July 10) on major routes including Mackenzie, Ash, Dozer and County Road 1A and in the Penrose area; motorists should expect intermittent delays and pilot cars. He also described the Canyon City Justice Center Drive reconstruction project (full road reconstruction, new stormwater culvert, sidewalks and crossings) from US Highway 50 to Grandview Avenue, with contractor Avalanche Excavation starting at the south end and working north; the project was described as lasting approximately 105 days with a southbound lane maintained for the duration and phased traffic plans.
Carrocci and commissioners promoted the Fremont County Fair at Pathfinder Park, scheduled July 25–Aug. 2, noting livestock shows, open-fair exhibits, junior and ranch rodeos, buyers’ day and senior/family day on Aug. 1; commissioners thanked fair volunteers. Commissioners and staff reiterated heightened fire danger and urged caution during the dry conditions.
