Bill Sutton, director of the Shawnee County Solid Waste Department, presented his proposed 2026 budget of $18,982,615.50, a roughly 10.6% increase from last year driven by capital acquisitions, contractual-service cost increases and wage growth.

Major increases Sutton flagged included a roughly $345,000 rise in contractual services (including the old landfill contractual increases and software), wage increases of about $631,000 (union and classified), and motor-vehicle replacements totaling about $800,000 compared with the prior year.
Sutton closed by answering a brief operational question on vehicle sizing and said the capital program is reflected in the requested budget. No formal actions or votes were recorded during the presentation.
